MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Organization’s environmental management system on a project level to reduce any impact on the environment, in line with current environmental legislation and international standards (ISO 14001) as well as the project specific environmental authorization (EA), and environmental management programme (EMPr).
REQUIREMENTS:
Tertiary education in the environmental discipline
SAMTRAC and International Management Systems – ISO 14001 Internal Auditor
3 years’ experience as Environmental Officer or within the Environmental Field.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and Visio
Auditing
Administration and Record Keeping
Valid / applicable driver’s license
Aspect and Impact Assessing Methodology and Impact Management
Incident Investigation
Time Management
Verbal and Written communication skills
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement policies, procedures and aspect / impact assessment on Environmental in accordance with applicable legislative requirements, regulations, standards as well as Organisation requirements
Monitor and ensure compliance of policies, procedures and aspect / impact assessments in accordance with applicable legislative requirements, regulations, standards as well as Organisation requirements
Investigates accidents/ incidents, liaise with parties and ensure all documentation is updated.
Conduct monthly environmental compliance audit of project activities to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and other requirements.
Conduct site inspection to ensure environmental compliance
Environmental objectives and targets are monitored and documented.
Implement and maintain compliance with the project specific environment authorisation, and environmental management programme (EMPr).
Implement and maintain ISO 14001 at site level.
Implement and maintain an effective waste management system on site, and keep a record of all waste generated by site.
Identify aspects, assess impacts and implement effective control measures.
Implement necessary corrective action and monitor effectiveness.
Adequate documented information (document and record control).
Stakeholder Relationships:
Advise employees, visitors and contractors/suppliers regarding legislative, Organisation and Client requirements with regards to the environmental industry.
Good relationship with all external and internal parties.
Represent employees on matters regarding environmental matters.
Hold meetings with site staff and stakeholders on compliance and environmental matters.
Compliance with QMS:
Refer to the relevant SHEQ department QMS documentation (career path, roles, responsibilities, integrated management system such as document control, monitoring and measuring, non-conformances, management of change, etc.).
