Our client is a well-established South African manufacturer with decades of industry experience, specialising in the design and manufacture of high-quality plastic products. With a strong focus on innovation, automation and operational excellence, they are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join their maintenance team.
Job Purpose:
The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of production machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance while supporting production through effective fault finding and equipment optimisation.
Minimum Requirements:
• National Diploma or Trade Qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working on automated production machinery.
• Strong PLC fault-finding experience.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programmes.
• Strong understanding of production equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Computer literacy with good IT skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform preventative and planned maintenance on all production equipment.
• Carry out breakdown maintenance and fault finding to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and automated machinery.
• Maintain robots and automated production systems.
• Install, commission and optimise manufacturing equipment.
• Monitor machine performance, cycle times and efficiency.
• Perform routine inspections of machinery and equipment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
• Ensure machinery complies with health and safety requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment reliability and productivity.
• Work closely with Production, Engineering and Management teams.
